Online “Bangladesh Politics Research Meeting” – Announcement

For this research meeting, we are pleased to welcome Professor S. M. Ali Reza, Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Dhaka, who will present on the theme “Bangladeshi Politics after the Regime Change.”
Since the political upheaval of August 2024, Bangladesh has continued to undergo wide-ranging changes under an interim government, spanning politics, administration, and diplomacy.
In this session, Professor Reza will share his perspective as a local researcher on the post-upheaval political situation, the dynamics among major political forces, challenges to democratization and institutional reform, and shifts in foreign policy.
We warmly welcome the participation of all those interested in Bangladeshi politics and South Asian regional studies.

Professor, Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Dhaka. After studying political science at the University of Dhaka, he pursued public law and policy at the Graduate School of Tohoku University, and received his Ph.D. in International Public Policy from the Graduate School of Osaka University. He has been engaged in teaching and research in the Department of Political Science at the University of Dhaka since 2001, and has served as a professor there since 2018.
His areas of specialization include Bangladeshi politics, South Asian politics, Japanese politics and diplomacy, and the politics and development policy of East and Southeast Asia. He has particularly close ties with Japan and has published extensively on Japan’s political system and foreign policy, Japan–South Asia relations, and Japan–Bangladesh relations.
He studied at Tohoku University and Osaka University as a scholarship student of the Japanese government (MEXT), and also spent a year conducting research at Rikkyo University as a Japan Foundation Fellow.

Prof. SATO Tsutomu, Visiting Professor of the Center, serves as an international advisor to Asian Confluence.
Title: “New Perspectives from Northeast India: Looking Toward Delhi and Tokyo”
The speaker shared new insights into Japan–India relations from the perspective of Northeast India and discussed key issues related to the bilateral partnership. We also heard local views on the results of the West Bengal state assembly election counted on May 4.
